[edit] Listening

You can always see a list of what's currently being streamed on this page. From there (assuming there is an active stream) you can get a .m3u or .xpfs file that will open in iTunes, WMP or any similar application. The URL http://www.kundor.org:8000/tabb.m3u (as linked above) should open a stream if one is currently running.

At the end of each hour slot or show the stream will cut out briefly as the hosts changeover. It is imperative you sit still in your chair and click the link again and again until it comes back. This should no longer happen.

TaBB Internet Radio plays some Sundays. There are periods of regularity, but mostly if there's a thread it's happening if there isn't it isn't.

Anyone can be a DJ!! Things you need:

  1. some cans
  2. a mic
  3. a voice
  4. tunes (!)

[edit] Setting up Oddcast

First thing you must do is get a Lame_enc.dll file to put in your WinAmp main directory.

Load WinAmp. Click to Options -> Preferences and hit "DSP/Effect". Click on "Oddcast DSP v3".

Once open you click on Add Encoder (it will pop up in the little box below). Right click on the one that popped up and select configure.

You should get a screen like this:

We are going to change the Encoder Type to MP3 Lame, the Bitrate to 128 and the Sample Rate to 44100. Change the Server IP to kundor.org. The password is "musicman". If you're playing a Sunday set then the mount point must be /tabb. Otherwise it can be whatever you want. Don't add .m3u as the server does that on its own.

Next hit the YP Settings button and change things accordingly.

This is the most important thing you must do. Go to the EQ on the winamp player and set the preamp to -12! If you do not do this your songs will peak/sound shitty so do it.

set up a playlist hit connect on oddcast and YOU WILL BE IN BUSINESS!

Note: you can use iTunes to play your music if you set "live recording" in Oddcast to "stereo mix". This will capture every sound though, so disable sounds in programs like MSN, general alerts in windows, etc.

[edit] Setting up Nicecast

  1. Open it.
  2. Hit ⌘2 or go Window -> Show Server to bring up the Server window if you can't see it already.
  3. Create a new blank server configuration by pressing the plus sign in the pallet to the right of the main server window. A new line should appear in the list under "Built-In Server" reading "Untitled Server". Select it as Nicecast's default by hitting the radio button directly next to it.
  4. Set Name: kundor, Server Type: Icecast 2, Password: musicman, Address: www.kundor.org, Port: 8000. Leave "Account" blank and choose your own (unique) Mount Point (e.g. your name).
  5. Go back to your main Nicecast window (⌘1). Click through the buttons, making sure that your Source is set to iTunes, that your Info is as you like it and that your Quality is set to 128kbps/44.1khz/Stereo.
  6. Hit "Start Broadcast" and get someone to test your feed via the info in the Share area of your main window. You're on the air.

The Nicecast manual (⌘?) is helpful and simply worded enough to be quite handy. There's a section on using Skype conversations etc. in your broadcasts if that's something you're into $$

If you are broadcasting as part of Tabb Internet Radio's Sunday Best, you should use the mount point "/tabb". It requires your client use these settings:

  • Bitrate: 128kbps
  • Sample Rate: 44.1khz
  • Channels: Stereo

If you set a different mount point (if you're testing or playing for friends etc) you can use whatever settings you want.

Nicecast will send track information from iTunes so long as iTunes is your primary source. Oddcast is a little different.

Whenever you like, dogg. The server supports four simultaneous streams. You'll probably need to be in IRC if you want anyone to listen to it though.

If you want to do a Sunday show you should totally speak to Dae about that (or whoever else is organizing things at the time).
